Maybe all the final wedding preparations going on in a certain household in Nepean Ontario this week have irked Ol' Man Winter.
How dare they pick flowers, colour schemes and other summery trappings when we haven't even had winter yet?
Maybe too many folks had too much fun at the 2006 NFL Pro-Bowl in Hawaii this past Sunday.
Maybe Ol' man Winter has been inspired by the tingles-the-cockles-of-your-heart opening events of the Winter Olympics and feels we all should share in the Olympic experience. Why not? Who doesn't want to carrene down the 407 or 401, crossing 12 lanes of traffic like an out of control Ukrainian Luger?
Yes, winter is back with a vengence all across Canada. Still, out here, we are getting off a bit easy. Sure it's cold, we dropped from around plus 5 or 6 to minus 25 in a heartbeat, but to quote my future father-in-law, "You don't have to shovel cold". We did have a brief squall of snow the other day but no where near the dumpings that Ontario and the Maritimes have seen. There have been road fatalities in and around the Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto areas yesterday and today.
I was amazed to read this entry from my friend Shawn's blog pertaining to the weather events of the past 24 hours in Toronto:
"First off, if I've ever lived through a 24 hour period with weirder weather than the previous 24 I've just experienced then I don't recall it. Let's do a little breakdown:
5:00am Thursday, February 16: Blizzard. Coming down in sheets. Driving on the 407 was like trying to run through sand. Not cold though.
7:30-8:00am: No more snow, but now it's freezing!
12:00pm: Not as cold anymore, but breezy and raining.
4:30pm: Hail and freezing rain. Could have strapped on skates and gotten to my bus faster than walking.
7:00pm: No rain, no wind, no cold. Wouldn't want to walk around in shorts or anything, but you're not dying outside.
11:30pm: No rain, windy, and a thunder and lightning storm. I hate thunder.
4:30am-6:00am, Friday, February 17: It's +6 degrees out. Go figure. Good thing I'm up to enjoy it.
6:15am: Starting to get windy, temperature sarts to drop. Starts snowing.
7:00am: Snow stops, hurricane force winds start.
8:30am: Still in a hurricane, and the temp is now -6 degrees. And sunny. Haven't seen the sun in a few days, and it chooses now to come out?"
Crazy! Glad I'm not in T.O right now.
Marielena comes home on Sunday after spending a week in Ottawa attending to a plethora of wedding details and oddly enough, the weather hear is supposed to be back up in the balmy plus areas. Coincidence?? Who knows?
But if your area is blindsided with a sudden drop in temperature or a dump of snow, maybe, just maybe, you'll wonder what other details of the "Summer of 06" are being attended to.
